Decorative & Fine Arts Society

Welcome to the website of the Teignbridge Decorative and Fine Arts Society (TDFAS) affiliated member of The Arts Society

Teignbridge DFAS is an affiliated member of The Arts Society which promotes the study of history, social history, techniques and materials, design and manufacture and collections of: architecture, painting, prints, sculpture, textiles, furniture, furnishings, costume, glass and ceramics, enamel, metalwork, garden design and installation art; as well as the lives and influences of the artists, architects, craftsmen and patrons involved. Music, theatre and literature can play an important part in illustrating art.

We are a vibrant and friendly group who meet in the morning on the second Thursday of the month from October through to June. Meetings are held in the Courtenay Centre, Kingsteignton Road, Newton Abbot where coffee/tea is provided prior to the lecture which commences at 10.30am

Our aim is to provide a wide range of illustrated lectures by The Arts Society speakers who are all experts in their own specialist fields. We organise study days, day visits to houses of historic interest, social events and at least one annual tour of five or six days. In particular we enjoy promoting activities for young artists, and being involved in cultural projects in the local community.

All members are invited to attend events during the year.  If you are considering joining our Society, why not come along to a lecture as a Visitor (£10.00 per person) Please let our membership secretary, Daphne Driver, know if you would like to do this by sending an email to

We welcome your feedback on our activities and would love to receive any comments or suggestions you may have. Please email your thoughts to:

Coronavirus (Covid-19)

Dear Members

Following the Governments’ Public Health advice, and as our priority is the health and wellbeing of our members and speakers, the Teignbridge Decorative and Fine Arts Society Committee has taken the decision to cancel the remaining lecture programme until October. A full programme is booked for the 2020/2021 season

We shall also be cancelling the Special Interest Day at Buckfast Abbey on 4th June, as well as the AGM on the 11th June. As the AGM is a statutory requirement this will be rescheduled at a later date.

We also hope we may be able to reschedule the Special Interest Day in the future.

Refunds will be organised for the Special Interest Day and posted to you shortly.

The Manchester Tour due to take place in September is postponed and it is hoped that this can be rescheduled in spring 2021.

Membership renewal forms for 2020-2021 will be sent out in due course.

We will keep you updated, and further information will posted on our website:

The committee send our best wishes to you all, and look forward to seeing you in October.
